Kulin – Native tribes of Australia located in the south east of the country, an expanse of approximately 25% of the state of Victoria. Kulin is made up of 5 tribal groups, of which each consist of several clan areas. The tribal groups of the Kulin are:- Boonwurrung, Djadjarung, Taungurung, Wathawurrung, and Woiwurrung. The BKIN focusing particular significance to that area on which the City of greater Melbourne and environs are sited, being Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung country.
Boonwurrung clan groups are: Boonwurrung Balag, Mayun Balag, Ngaruk Willam, Yallock Balag, Yalukit Willam, and the Yowengarra. Boonwurrung is roughly central and southern greater Melbourne from east to west.
Woiwurrung clan groups are: Balak willam, Gunung willam bulluk, Kurung jang balluk, Marin balluk, Wurundjeri willam. The northern half of Melbourne from east to west – including, Whittlesea, and up past Healesville.
Djadjarung As a very rough guide is the area north up and around Bendigo
Taungurung As a very rough guide is the area north and north east form Seymour up to and around Wangaratta
Wathawurrung As a very rough guide is the area west of Melbourne including the Point Lonsdale, Geelong and environs.
